TRYING TO CONCEIVE – OUR JOURNEY
I am so blessed to say that our TTC journey has ended but wanted to share with you the back story of our journey!
THE PROBLEM
We started “trying” around August 2006 and I went in for a Doc’s appointment in October 06 to find that I might have PCOS. Later to find that I didn’t really “have” PCOS but I MIGHT develop it if I didn’t try to fight. So the Doc decided to put me on Metformin to try to help prevent PCOS and hopefully lose weight too – I wound up losing 17 pounds. Also, the Doc found that my ovaries were enlarged.
NOVEMBER 2006
My Doc and other resources have stated that while taking Metformin If I would change my eating habits and exercise I would have a better chance so I knew I had to make that adjustment If I ever wanted to become a Mommy. November 06 is when I started the Metformin and change of eating and exercise!
HORMONAL IMBALANCE
After they took some blood and ran some tests I found out that I have a hormonal imbalance and not enough Estrogen! My Testerone level was a little high as were a few other levels. This was very discouraging but I tried to keep a positive mind about it. March 06 I went back for more blood work and the Metformin had helped some so she didn’t change the dosage on the Metformin and I was to come back in 6 months – my appointment was rescheduled because my Doc was gonna be out of town so It was set to Oct 30. Well I thought PMS would show so I rescheduled again to November 13th. Low and behold, I found out I was pregnant on Halloween 2007!!!
OVULATION
Once I found out about the hormonal imbalance, I needed to see If I was Ovulating – meaning releasing an egg for my husbands sperm to get to. I decided to first try an OPK. These would give me an idea of when I ovulated. Results? The OPK sticks said I “ovulated” but come to find out I didn’t.. how did I know? Read below. The OPK’s seemed to say I ovulated but that was false.
CHARTING TEMPS
Along with the OPK, I decided to buy myself a Basal Body Thermometer and try to figure out how to chart my temps. This is another method to see If ovulation is taking place. How? Here is an article about Basal Body Thermometers and how to chart. Your temp will seem to dip lower around ovulation and once you see a significant rise after that dip, then you have ovulated. It’s very interesting. There are few different places where you can record your temps – I use FertilityFriend. There is also a free trial at Ovusoft. The first month I charted: December 2006, my temps were all over the place so I did not ovulate that month. January 2007 my temps were a little better but still high and I might have ovulated. February’s chart looked much much better and my period was 1 day shorter than usual. I could definetly tell by my temps that I HAD ovulated!! WOO! :grinny: After many disappointing months of frustration and tears, I finally got my BFP chart!!!!!!!!!!!! Charting was a wonderful thing!
