Of course with all this health stuff going on, I research like a mad person and most cases of regular anemia equal a lowered hemoglobin and mine is within range. SO WHAT IS GOING ON?! I started to dive more into iron and having symptoms but still normal range hemoglobin. I came upon articles about RUNNERS and ATHLETES. Once my energy went up, I really started to get into running late 2009 and early 2010. I was sweating until my shirt was literally soaked from top to bottom and running atleast 3 times a week plus other intense exercising. THEN there was my diet that was restricted. Read about loss of iron through SWEAT and also through not enough iron in the diet. I researched and found that you CAN have normal hemoglobin levels but have severely depleted iron storage LEVELS aka serum ferritin. That sounds about right for my case. What do I do? Keep doing what I’ve been doing EXCEPT add more iron to my daily diet and also vitamin C REALLY helps the body absorb the iron so Brad’s gonna get me more Emergen-C packets like I had back in… November I think it was? We’ll see how I do with all this.
In 2 weeks of taking iron supplements, I have noticed small improvements. I just gotta keep hoping for the best. I need to get these levels tested but I’d have to switch Docs since my current Doc keeps trying to shove depression meds on me and I don’t want them! Anyhow, I gotta get a lesson ready for church tomorrow then fix dinner once Brad brings it home- since all this happened with my iron I’m not going the vegan route for now since I need MEAAT to help with this iron issue. We’re having turkey burgers and veggies! It was another pretty bland day… cleaned house, played super mario bros on wii, took a nap and surfed the web.
*sigh* Come back to me energy, please?
Hey hun! Congrats on being proactive on your health. I love your blog too. I suffer from low iron also. I never found iron supplements alone to help at all. Not only that but they are kind of harsh on the liver too. What I did find that worked was upping vitamin C like you are doing. I also found doubling and tripping my dose of vitamin B to really help with absorption. I can tell when my iron is up or down. When it’s up, I can run amazingly well for long periods of time. But when it’s low, I’m out of breath after a few minutes of running. Good luck with your iron. Keep me updated on what works for you. 🙂
Hey thx for the comment! I love when people reach out and tell me about their struggles in relation with my own! Did your energy go away for a period of time with the iron? I’m wondering how long it’ll take me to feel SOME kind of energy again. Would love to hear more about your iron struggle situations because If I can learn more maybe I can find more solutions to help me.
